You've got postmodernism in the common idpol position, which states that real truth is fundamentally mediated via the diverse and disparate "lived experiences" of persons, and questions the authority of the normative and colonialist, white, et al. position by lifting up the voices of those who have been marginalized - a complete rejection of the view that the world could be understandable through a single position
But it's also postmodern to question the very existence of "authentic" ids and the "true" self which idpol depends on - a skepticism of the concept that human beings are unitary, univocal entities whose "experiences" come together around a coherent whole, and especially the view that ethnic/racial groups, gender, sexual orientations are actual entities that can even be id’d with a specific point of view at all
Modernism and postmodernism in, like, architecture are in reality just variations on this theme:
Modern architecture: We've found out how to order human life and society, now it's time to put this to architecture. We have conquered the future with the car/truck/van/suv and Paris will be demolished tomorrow for apartment blocks. Cities and dwellings will be transformed into machines for living. Ornamentation is an not needed for the distraction from the real purpose of architecture. Our formula will permit everyone in every place to live a clean, convenient, orderly, and up to date lifestyle.
Postmodern architecture: Well, maybe we weren't correct about that. Maybe the built environment isn't one-size-fits all. We have to erect things on the scale of humans and admit that humans don't want to live in machines. We have to adapt to the localized culture and environment. Ornamentation can be good and meaningful. We'll take a more humble approach and learn from the past.
